Comparison of coherent demand systems: The case of meat demand in the Czech Republic

There are many models used to estimate demand elasticities. We present a complex review of these studies in our thesis. Our empirical goal is to compare LES, Translog and QUAIDS demand systems according to their performance. In parallel, we estimate the elasticities of meat demand in the Czech Republic for the period 2010 - 2015 using the data of the household budget survey. Comparing the systems by the Akaike and Schwarz criterion, LES demonstrates the best fit for this kind of data. The average of price elasticity for different kinds of meat in the examined period is -0.99, income elasticity then equals to 1.12. These results can have important implications for tax policy, or for commercial use. Meat or Salad? Effect of Dynamic Norms on Preference for Meatless Meals

The food choices we make every day have a great impact on our environment. Particularly meat consumption significantly contributes to global climate change. Although the current situation calls for a change towards more sustainable diet, meat consumption is still rising. Previous research show that dynamic social norms, i.e. information about ongoing collective behavioral change, can promote pro- environmental behavior, even in the context of meat consumption. Through two pre- registered online experimental studies conducted on a sample of university students (Study 1, N = 227) and on a sample of adult Czech population (Study 2, N = 462), this thesis examines whether dynamic norm message regarding the changing trends in meat consumption can influence intentions to consume less meat. We did not find any direct or total effect of dynamic norms on the preference for meatless meals. Mediation analysis only revealed rather weak indirect effect of dynamic norms on the preference for meatless meals mediated by perceived dynamic norms. Consumption of animal-based products among ecologically active individuals

The diploma thesis deals with the paradox that arises based on a conflict of actions and opinions on the consumption of animal products. The aim of the work was to reveal the social factors that cause this discrepancy, assuming that social factors play an important role. This assumption is based on the consideration of meat as a social construct rooted in culture, and thus the consumption of meat is examined in this paper not as an individual decision but as a result of the influences of different institutions and social structures. This paradox is being studied on ecologically active individuals, and it is assumed that in this case the discrepancy between opinions on animal products and actual behaviour will be even more pronounced. The conclusion of the work reveals as one of the most important factors family and traditions, which cause that individuals are afraid of exclusion from the social group of the family and at the same time they want to be true to traditions. Respondents often preferred to conform to members of the groups to which they belong or to culture and traditions. The work also deals with the guilt caused by this discrepancy, taking into account the impact of ecology as an external factor.

Psychological and cultural aspects of the human animal relationship

The bacherol thesis deals with the psychological aspects of attitudes towards animals and with psychological context of eating meat. The theoretical part is focused on a historical development of attitudes towards animals and their socio-cultural determination, and the ethical aspect of our current attitudes towards animals and psychological mechanisms associated with the consumption of meat is discussed there. The empirical part examines attitudes towards animals and dependence of attribution of mental capacities to specific species on its perceived edibility. The research group consists of vegetarians and vegans (n=207) and meat eaters (n=247). Quantitative approach was combined with a qualitative research for better interpretation (n=33). The results support an expected influence of vegetarianism and gender on attitudes towards animals, as well as the influence of meat consumption on the attribution of mental capacity.
Poultry meat products, technology of production, market

This thesis is focused on poultry meat and its products. A definition of meat, sources of meat, types of poultry production and own goal of the thesis are explained in the first chapter. Then there are described technological processes of poultry treatment in common with a veterinary and hygienic supervision which provides a check of the production and processing of poultry meat. In addition, there are mentioned some manufacturing companies which are engaged in poultry processing. The third and the fourth chapters are about a general characteristic and a quality of poultry meat. There are described issues related with poultry meat and its quality, structure, production and consumption in the following chapter. The last chapter is theoretical and there is taking apart the main problem of this thesis which means the production of poultry meat products, other poultry products and an overview of legislation related to poultry meat products. The practical part is focused on consumer attitude to poultry meat and poultry meat products and other kinds of meat by a questionnaire. A discussion and evaluation are based on resulting graphs. An appropriate conclusion was developed from this part of thesis.
